屏幕:D40機身背面按鈕被簡化,2.5英寸液晶屏幕占據了一半面積,使左側按鈕區域變得擁擠.左側功能按鈕,比過去的單反有所削减,ISO 白平衡等調節功能被整合進了菜單.
像素:搭載与D50相同的610萬像素APS-C規格的CCD.
對焦系統:采用3點對焦
測光系統:3D彩色矩陣測光II,幷且同時支持75%的中央重點測光和8%的點測光功能.
鏡頭:D40使用的套裝鏡頭看起來和D50的都是同一款18-55MM DX鏡頭,仔細觀察後發現後面還多了一個"II"的標志,說明這是一款改良版本的鏡頭.
